Beangstigend

Nu de lokale verkiezingen voorbij zijn, vind ik het erg beangstigend hoe gemakkelijk de PVV in Almere gewonnen heeft. Die angst heeft verschillende redenen. Een van de belangrijkste heeft te maken met dit nieuwsbericht.

Daarin laat de PVV weten dat zij Leefbaar Almere niet in de besprekingen voor een coalitie wil hebben als diens lijsttrekker zijn woorden niet terugnam - en dit terwijl de PVV zelf continu beledigd onder het mom van de vrijheid van meningsuiting!

Dit incident verdient iets meer toelichting. Het ging om de opmerking van de lijsttrekker dat 'discriminatie als een bruine draad door het partijprogramma van de PVV loopt'. De lijsttrekker refereert hiermee aan de zogenaamde 'bruinhemden' in WOII, een politie- en intimidatie-eenheid van Hitlers politieke partij NSDAP.

De PVV wil dat Leefbaar Almere deze woorden terugneemt, ondanks de zogenaamde 'Vrijheid' waaraan de naam van de partij refereert. Dezelfde vrijheid die Wilders claimt wanneer zijn racistische ("alle Marokkanen moeten het land uit") en discriminatoire ("de Koran is vergelijkbaar met Mijn Kampf") uitlatingen weer eens tegen het daglicht worden gehouden. Geldt deze vrijheid van meningsuiting alleen voor de PVV?

Blijkbaar is het de PVV toegestaan om de Koran met Mijn Kampf vergelijken; de rechtbank heeft het zo besloten. Het is daarom zorgwekkend dat de PVV de vrijheid van meningsuiting niet aan anderen toestaat - weet dan alleen de PVV wat de waarheid is, wat het beste is voor iedereen? Ik hoef echt niet aan een dictatuur te refereren om te laten zien dat dit fout zit.

Valt het jullie overigens ook op dat zowel de PVV als zijn tegenstanders aan nazi-vergelijkingen doen? Godwin heeft hier de 'Wet van Godwin' voor verzonnen, die min of meer voorspelt dat elke internet-discussie uiteindelijk in nazi-vergelijkingen uitloopt. Blijkbaar geldt dit ook voor de Nederlandse politiek....


Scares me shitless

Now that the local elections in the Netherlands are over, I am scared shitless of how easy the PVV won the elections in the city of Almere - they are the biggest party there and can lead a coalition with other party's. PVV stands for 'Party of Freedom', and like all racist party's seem to do, their name is the exact opposite of their actual intentions. The reasons for my fear are multiple, but right now it's got to do with the following news article (in Dutch).

In the article the PVV says that they will exclude the option for the political party Leefbaar Almere (Livable Almere, racist party nr. 2) as a coalition-partner, so long as the party doesn't withdraw an earlier remark.
The remark in question, made by the party leader of Leefbaar Almere, stated that 'discrimination runs like a brown thread through PVV's party program'. The 'brown thread' refers to the so-called brownshirts, the police- and intimidation-unit of Hitlers political party NSDAP.

So the PVV wants Leefbaar Almere to withdraw these words, despite the so-called 'Freedom' that their party name refers to. The same freedom of speech that their party leader Geert Wilders claims when his racist ("All Maroccan people should leave the country") or discriminating ("The Qur'an is comparable to Mein Kampf") words are examined. Is this freedom restricted to the PVV?

Apparently the PVV is allowed to compare the Qur'an with Mein Kampf; a Dutch judge decided that's it's allowed under the freedom of speech. That's why it's so frightening that the PVV denies others these liberties. Does only the PVV know what's best for everybody, and what's true? I don't even need to refer to any dictatorship here, to show that this is wrong.

By the way, did you notice that both the PVV and their opponents seem to feel nazi-comparisons are necessary? Godwin has made Godwin's Law for this, which states that any internet discussion will inevitably end in a comparison with the nazi's. This seems to apply to Dutch politics as well...
